Most visitors take flights to Puerto Maldonado from Cuzco (often written “Cusco”), near Machu Picchu, or Lima to avoid the 12-hour bus ride from Cuzco.
There are daily flights to and from Puerto Maldonado. They almost always arrive and leave in the morning or early afternoon.
Flights from Cuzco take under an hour and from Lima they take just over 1h30. If you’re planning to fly from Lima, check if your flight is direct or indirect.
